Lesson #5 is psychological, and I think Crookham tested it perfectly on Sunday.

He lead a psychological test thinly disguised as a warm-up passing drill. It required concentration, and on top of identifying candidates for the short bus, it showed him how players react to criticism. He didn’t yell at anyone, but he feigned exasperation with the group’s inability to understand it quickly. He dismissed the group before walking to the adjacent group in progress and loudly noted that they were better coaches than he was because the kids had it clicking.

I’m speculating about the exact scheming at that point in the tryout, but I saw the lesson delivered whether Crookham was deliberate or not. The kids got water and returned to the field, some with a little less spring in their step.
